Memorial Day has been celebrated in the United States for almost 150 years. Since the 1970's, Memorial Day is officially celebrated on the last Monday of May. Originally called "Decoration Day," Memorial Day was created as a day dedicated to honor and remembrance for all those who died in service of the United States, inspired by the 500,000 deaths of soldiers in the Civil War. Since the Civil War, however, over 1,000,000 soldiers have died in various wars. Every year, thousands of people enlist in the military; meaning thousands of people are willing to risk their lives to protect our rights and freedoms.
Henry Dwyer VFW Post 9297 host a Texas Hold'em Tournament every Monday night @ 7:00 PM.
The VFW was the first veterans’ organization to adopt the poppy and develop a national distribution campaign. For more than 75 years, the VFW’s Buddy Poppy program has raised millions of dollars in support of veterans’ welfare and the well being of their dependents. Pick up your Buddy Poppy at the Post and wear it proudly!
Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group. For more information go to About/Membership on the tag line above.
